painted screens

According to the IMAX promotional video showing in the lobby of the Sony
IMAX theater in NYC, the theater's screen *is* painted. (They talk about
the gallons of silver paint needed to do this.) 

Several years ago, my students painted a 24' x 24' surface with silver
paint that produced an excellent 3D projection surface. The only problem
was that the surface was powdery, and subject to fingerprints. Obviously,
we didn't use the right silver paint.
