One of the pieces of information we seem to be lacking is how good a
match is good enough. While the number of 1% has been mentioned, there
is no basis for that number that we have found,
OTH, some people merely attach two rather inexpensive camera to a board
with elstic bands and are statisfied with the results.
I am in the process of converting a cheap motorized camera for meteor
patrol work. When I disassembled it, there was no provision for
adjusting the lens position. The lens is nominally a 35 mm f/8. The
tolerances are force fit plastic :-)
I suspect there is a knee in the curve somewhere short of optically
exact, but 1% is a readily noticed scale difference in my mind.
Somewhere, there is at least one text where this is discussed in
detail. Sure wish some knew what it is!
Regards,
John
