Photo-CD & displaying slides on TV

Just a few thoughts on the subject of Photo-CD and slides on TV. First, I
think that widespread use of Photo-CD didn't do well in the mass market
for a couple of reasons. First, expense. It's more expensive to get your
photos put on photo-CD. Second, speed. It takes too long to get your
prints & CD back. If the 1 hour places could take an extra hour or so to
transfer the photos to CD, it'd be worth it for me. I've been spoiled by
1 hour processing and don't even like to wait for those services which
process overnight. Third, viewers. While Kodak and Phillips had a great
idea with their CD-Interactive system, It would have been more prudent to
develop something that would work with a computer OR the CD-I unit.
Better still if they could have made a dual purpose unit with CD-I and
VCR. Still, I think it's a great idea and maybe some day I'll go through
the mound of slides & pics I took during my college days and get them
transferred.
Now, on the topic of displaying slides on TV. I think there's a unit out
there that projects slides onto a CCD "camera" which then translates it
directly to a TV or VCR. What would be really great is a unit of this
type designed to replace the lens of a standard Kodak projector.
What would be needed for the 3D world is a setup of this type on a 3D
projector with a "combiner" unit that would provide the interleaving
needed for LC glasses. Hmmm... sounds like a product to me!
Anyway, that's my musings for the day. Now, back to work :-)
