You point out a good parallel for 3-D in general: bad marketing and poor
products have hurt the entire industry.

The RCA disk (called CED) was a crappy product.  Reading video signals with
a stylus?  Give me a break.  It was subject to wear and skipping, and the
debacle hurt what I think is one of the best consumer electronics products
ever, LaserDisc.  People are still saying, "Video discs? They still make those?"

People are also saying, "3-D? You mean with the red-and-blue glasses and
everything?"

But when you show someone the picture from a 3-D slide viewer or a
LaserDisc, the reaction is the same: "Why don't more people use these?"
