How about a long clear "strip" that has pockets to put 4/5/7P images in 
proper sequence?  Cheap version is just two thin sheets of clear mylar
heat sealed in appropriate places, open on the top.  A more
advanced version might be opaque with holes as not to be in the light
path.  As has been pointed out, it can't be used for projection, so 
mounting in pockets may be of adequate accuracy.  Because of the extra
thickness the number of images may have to be reduced though.  How much
extra space is in the cartridges?

P.S. - First one might cost a bit, but the second one thereafter would be dirt
