Andrew Woods reports--
"We print the two images [of the stereopair] on opposite surfaces
of specially prepared substrates, using dichroic inks in otherwise
standard inkjet printers"

The hardest part is getting the printer to print on both sides
of the substrate with correct alignment.

The results are fabulous.

Bless Vyvian Walworth, the tireless drumbeater for the Vectograph! Some
years ago she gave a fascinating lecture/demonstration here in NYC showing
off a range of Vectographs from 4 x 5 transparencies to 20 x 24 framed
prints. The large pieces were all black-and-white and the smaller ones full
color. At the time, I appreciated the agonies of the color version which
required laying down *six* layers of dye (three on each side) keeping them
all in register and free of defects (such as bubbles). But the ink-jet
printer could solve most of those agonies and hopefully not replace them with
others just as bad. [I can just hear the screaming when a piece of Vectograph
film doesn't feed properly through the printer on the second side and an
expensive sheet is ruined.] Using a computer and inkjet printer also
eliminates the messy darkroom task of making the dye matrices; a tremendous
hurdle for those of us who do not have access to darkroom lab facilities.
The news is really heartening. Please keep us informed on this valuable
development.
