For those unfamiliar with it, the Auction Web acts only as an automatic
auctioneer. You make your bid(s) via a Web form, the system performs
the bid arbitration and tells you who is high bidder.
When the bidding closes, e-mail is sent to the seller and the high
bidder. It is up to the seller and the high bidder to conduct the
transaction between themselves; Auction Web takes no part in this.
Additional features it offers are "registration" of buyer and seller.
(You give the Auction Web details about your physical address, and
sellers can require that a bidder be registered; then if there's any
funny business in closing the transaction, Auction Web can supply
you with a snail-mail address of the other party.)
I have been high bidder on three or four non-Stereoview items, and
all transactions were concluded by e-mail and snail mail without
any problems. I was very recently high bidder on some stereoviews,
so recently in fact that the transaction is still in progress.
I would not hesitate to recommend participating.
