Bill, et al. Yep, I'd forgotten the HS chemistry re pH only applying to
aqueous solutions. Several have set me straight on this! I did write to
WD-40 and ask about composition, but have not yet heard back.
And thanks much for the info you supplied.
In addition to the teflon family of lubricants (available as oil or gel at
Radio Shack) I've been experimenting with General Motors Heat Valve
Lubricant and General Purpose Penetrant, which seems to be similar in
function to WD-40, except the paraffinic oil (of which I was not
previously aware of until Bill's post) has apparently been replaced by a
colloidal graphite suspension which remains after the solvent evaporates.
