Is it hot in here?

Sheesh...I'm almost afraid to say anything on this list right now,
but can't hold back on a few topics:
First, I cannot believe the animosity directed towards George. I'm
glad he has his opinions AND sticks up for them...few people even bother to
form opinions about anything. I might not agree with everything that he
(or anyone else) says, but I know it is coming from a very intelligent and
experienced background, so it's not just puffs of smoke.
Next, Tim Stabler asks about close-up stereo. Tim, unless you
REALLY need to work without a tripod, or with moving subjects (such as
insects) I suggest you stick with a single SLR with a decent macro lens and
a slidebar. This offers, by far, the most flexibility and the best optical
choice since you are not dealing with prisms or extra glass infront of the
lens.
Last, I completely agree with Ron's statement about using adequate
materials when comparing slides and prints. Scarily enough, there are only
two labs (out of several dozen in this city) who can actually focus their
enlargers. It's only because I am an experienced b&w printer that I know
when the negative can support a much sharper image than what the lab has
given back to me. There are also several variables for paper, development,
and drying that can affect the resolution.
:-)jamie.
