Okay will try to take an informal poll and see what happens.
So if anybody wants to participate in the poll just send a
email message to my above email address ( jacob@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx )
and in the subject header put an X or II as your preference.
If you don't have no preference, then put X and II.
If you can't freeview you can still participate and put a O.
The reason for including those who can't freeview is since
most on this list are into 3D it would be interesting to see how
many from that that segment of the population cannot freeview
and would help in people putting up web pages or including lorgnettes
in books, magazines etc.
So to summarize,
X for cross-eyed.
II for parallel-eyed.
X and II for both modes.
O for cannot freeview.
If your not sure what mode you can freeview, just take a normal stereo
pair (from a book, magazine, stereogram or even on the web if it's
presented as parallel) and since they are normally parallel, if you see
them with the depth reversed then you are viewing them cross-eyed. If
the 3D appears normal then it's parallel.
Nothing else required, but please only one vote per email address! ;-)
Will report the results in about two weeks or when no more messages
trickle in. So make your vote count! No names will be included in
the poll results unless you wish your name mentioned.

Yes initially that was my experience.

I agree with it being more comfortable and also reading glasses do make
it easier. Even if you don't normally require glasses and have normal
eyesight, reading glasses do help in fusing parallel stereopairs or
random stereograms.
It's for this reason (potentially more relaxing on the eyes) that even
though IF the poll shows that people find cross-eyed viewing easier
(for a 2 1/2 inch separation), it would be be recommended IMO that
stereo pairs still be presented as parallel views on the web or in
books, magazines, etc. Another reason is because for individuals that
still can't freeview, they will have to rely on stereoscopes which only
can view parallel stereopairs. (Unless of course someone uses Alans Free-
viewer.) I remember reading in an issue of Stereo World, someone asking
why they didn't put the 3D pics in the magazine as cross-eyed and I
think they mentioned that reason.
