X II free viewing

When I first read about fre viewing parrallel I could not do it at first
although I succeeded later with small 35mm half images contact printed .I
think the instructions actualy confused me at first as to what I actualy
had to do . Soon I was able to work up to larger images such as Holmes
views and even a little larger. But I have memories as a child of staring
at repeating patterns of tiles etc and getting them to seperate into
different planes so I think I was always able to do it without realising
what I was doing. For me it is a matter of relaxing and it requires
slightly more effort to keep my eyes converged for reading etc than it does
to view stereo pairs.
Not suprisingly it took me much more effort to master cross viewing
whenever I tried I just ended up parrallel viewing so saw a pseudoscopic
image . Finaly I managed by sighting on my finger while looking past it to
the stereo pair ,it actualy hurt first time . Now I no longer need to use a
finger and it is little more effort than parrallel and is very usefull for
large images that cannot be viewed parrallel. I tend to select the right
method without thinking based on size sometimes with large parrallel images
which I can view that way I go into cross viewing at first because it is
easier but get a pseudo image so have to try again to get my eyes
parrallel. I have normal eyesight at least to the extent that I dont use
prescription glasses. P.J.Homer
