And by the maximum horizontal sweep rate (if you want to fill the screen),
and by the minimum horizontal and vertical retrace times / blanking intervals.
Also in some cases by the amount and speed of video memory available, and
the number of colors you want to show.
"Pixel rate" is sometimes called the "pixel clock" or "dot clock".
