3D Standards

Standard or no, there will always be those who go against the standard
because there is a huge built-in audience (Internet is full of 'em) who
think that anything that is "different" is a reaction to normalcy and
therefore to be preferred. But Symmes is not going against the de facto
norm just to be rebellious, nor certainly out of ignorance, and to
characterize him as a "huckster" is a disservice, also. He certainly knows
his stuff. Fifteen years ago I was working at Warner Bros and trying to get
a 3D movie off the ground when I consulted with him and he made a strong
favorable impression on my superiors (not strong enough to get the movie
made, unfortunately). He manages to make a living in the world of 3D -- how
many of us can say that? I suspect that he has some kind of patent or other
protectionist interest in the red/right configuration. As I said before,
his personal E-mail to a couple of us here defending the configuration are
much more emotional that one would get discussion a simple coin-toss
decision. (I'll give my late mother the final word on the subject -- she
always told me that while all progress comes from change, not all change is
progress.)
