Detroit Monthly Report (May)
- From: P3D Dr. George A. Themelis <fj834@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>
- Subject: Detroit Monthly Report (May)
- Date: Thu, 15 May 1997 10:50:13 -0400 (EDT)
Great night in Detroit last night. A few highlights:
1. Last slide competition for the year was "Open". With only 3 points from
my main competitor, the race was tight. I was lucky to get one 1st and one
2nd place while he (Dennis Hanser, a great photographer) only got one 1st,
so I finished first for the year winning the prestigious Halin Award for
the second time. This was the toughest year and I tried my best. At the
end, when the race is tight, it is a matter of luck who gets first place.
There are many great stereo photographers in Detroit.
2. This year the number of entries for the slide year was limited to 5.
These come from those which won 1st, 2nd, or 3d places during the year. I
had 14 slides that qualified. Picking 5 out of 14 was tough for me... The
slide of the year will be judged by the Tulsa Camera Club, OK, and the
results will be presented in the next meeting. Awards will also be
presented in that meeting.
3. President of the Detroit Stereographic Society for next year is "our
very own" Derek Gee. I am sure that he will do a great job leading one of
the best stereo clubs in the country, but I will miss his projection
skills. Especially his "don't touch the controls" policy that has worked
great for years.
4. The Executive Council of the club is recommending a few changes, the
most important of which is related to the use of computer-generated images.
The EC proposes that computer-generated images entered only in "Open" or
"Contemporary" competitions, according to PSA Exhibition Standards. This
will now affect only one person in the club, Bill Battle whose work is
mainly in computer-generated images.
5. The program for this last meeting was a "Swap Meet" (bring things to
sell or trade). Guess who got the good stuff??? (check S3d for the answer!)
6. The slide competition assignments for next year are:
Sep - Open
Oct - Government
Nov - Wood
Dec - Sky Things
Jan - Bridges
Feb - Contemporary
Mar - Through the Window
Apr - Winter
May - Open
Good ideas are always solicited! Have a nice day everyone!
-- Happy Dr. T. (George Themelis) reporting from Cleveland...
