3D TV

Actually, Dan Symmes' major 3D credentials are in broadcast anaglyph. His
expertise in film is primarily in the over/under polaroid systems of the
early '80s, but he really made a name for himself converting several
classic movies to anaglyph video at about the same time. Most of the movies
you saw on early cable TV (Hondo, etc.) at the time were his work. It's
probably safe to say that he's had more experience with broadcast anaglyph
than anybody. I've never understood his devotion to the medium, given all
its myriad weaknesses, but he's been a cheerleader for a good decade and a
half. He's also led the campaign for color anaglyph videoss, which always
look putrid to me. Prior to his early-80s conversions of Hondo and others,
I don't think I'd ever seen anybody attempt a color anaglyph, and after
seeing John Wayne's red and blue neckerchief vibrating around his neck like
a living monster, I thought we never would again. Hopefully the ABC fiasco
will drive a stake through the heart of this weird hybrid concept at last!
