3rd Rock from the Sun

Well the sun has finally set on 3rd rock and it wasn't glorious.
As those that caught the show this evening readily know, the
dream sequences were interspersed through out the show. It
was nicely done but not for the 3d effect. I estimate there was
a total of 12 minutes of official 3d, with less than half being
readily observable as true 3d. In those parts it was okay and
there were some memorable instants but not nearly enough to
justify billing it as 3D. It's not because it didn't translate
well to broadcast television, which is not an issue in this case,
but rather that the producers of the 3d segment didn't create the
whole segment in pulfrich 3d. I have seen and am sure others have also,
regular programs that had more unintentional pulfrich 3d effects
and of equal or better quality. The Rolling Stones video from a
few years back certainly was excellent and was expecting something
similiar. In anycase I give it barely a passing grade.

After all this I noticed that at the closing credits they mention you
can buy the video from a toll free number. This number is on the web
site that they also list at
http://www.3rdrock.com/
On the site they show the video cover with the cast wearing anaglyph
glasses. I don't think the video for sale is anaglyph but rather they
are playing on the publics perception of all 3d film being anaglyph.
I guess anaglyph glasses symbolizes 3d for the public! For all it's
worth the red is on the left on the video cover. The title is 3rd Rock
3D Video. If that's the case all video can be misrepresented as 3D. ;-(
