Just a note that this topic has been explored at considerable length on
this list (available in the archives)...
In fact, we stereo folks have an easier time of this than the plano guys
do, because unlike them we have much more knowledge of final system
magnification/viewing distance, which is the whole point. The figures I
related are those found in the realist chart and in other 35 mm charts
which reference a circle of confusion of f/1000, which for viewer
magnification and ortho projection (which have not changed even though
film emulsions have) seem comfortable for most folks I know.
