VM Personal problem

I've just had a roll of film back from processing, which was exposed in a
ViewMaster Personal camera that I bought recently. Many of the frames have a
dark, underexposed area on one side - it looks a little like vignetting, but the
effect is vertical, down the side of the chip. All these pix were taken at
1/100 sec. On a previous roll, I'd used mostly exposures of 1/50 sec, and the
problem seems to be absent, or at least much less obvious.

Can anyone tell me the cause of this problem, and how it can be corrected?

Many thanks in advance!

Keith Wilson, in warm and sunny England.
