Where's the Beef? Make mine Eggplant..

Sam asked:
>Last year info was posted much earlier I thought.
>WHERE'S THE BEEF ?!?
Dalia answered:
>I myself felt that BIll's info made the upcoming convention more exciting.
It
>was a good build-up.
Thank you, but I was just following the lead set by the very capable
Atlanta planners from the year before.
>Here's the problem -- we don't have Bill Davis this year.
Yeah, he cracked after that last one. Mention NSA and Convention in the
same sentence around him now and he starts to twitch and drool, mumbling
about glasses, air-conditioning, buses and all sorts of stuff... :--)
The advantage (for photo-3d-ers, not for me) last year was that I was
handling quite a few things myself and didn't have to call around to anyone
to find out where we stood. I knew how many Registrants there were, where
both Tours were going and what they would include and how many people were
signed up, who the Keynote Speaker was and what he was going to talk about,
how many banquet meals and breakfasts had been sold, how many tables at the
trade show, how many Early Birds, etc. I was also in front of the computer
6 to 10 hours a day anyway, logging in Registrants, Faxing or e-mailing
information or working up the Forms or Program Booklets, so cutting and
pasting a copy of any updates out to the list was *relatively* easy.
This year there's a larger team, which spreads out the workload but makes
it much more difficult to gather all the particulars and then disseminate
them to the list. Check both the websites, Mary Ann's:
http://www.cinti.net/~vmmasell
and Dalia's: http://www.3dstereo.com/nsa.htm
for updates. Mary Ann's has e-mail links to all the committee members, so
you can contact them directly for answers to specific questions or to
VOLUNTEER TO HELP.
>In fact, each
>year's NSA convention is like starting all over again. Usually, the
>committee people have never had any experience in running a NSA convention.
Yeah, talk about a steep learning curve, that was the toughest part. Now
that I know how to do one, it would be nice to do it again in five or six
years. When I'm finished with my therapy.
Although each Convention is different, there are some generalities that
apply to all of them.
You can be certain that each will be the largest gathering of 3-D
enthusiasts for the year, with something for everyone, regardless of
particular preferences.
It will always be the largest gathering of dealers of 3-D equipment,
supplies and views.
It will always be the most Stereo Theater you will see in any weekend
during the year.
It will always be the best 3-D get-together on the planet, with more people
who already know "What kind of camera is that?" than you're likely to meet
throughout the entire rest of the year.
Here is the kind of hyperbole that I was posting early on, before our
specifics were certain. This applies to nearly every NSA convention:
>Friday through Sunday will be filled with Stereo Theater programs, with
slide shows encompassing the entire 150 year history of stereo photogeaphy,
from classic antique stereoviews to the breathtaking work of contemporary
masters to state-of-the-art computer graphics, all presented in full, true,
reach-out-and-touch-it 3-D in the air-conditioned comfort of the cavernous
Riverside Convention Center.
>
>Friday night brings the Spotlight Auction, with "over 200 choice lots of
stereographic collectibles selected specifically for their potential to
enhance any collection."
>
>Saturday and Sunday are the dates for the Trade Fair. Nearly every
>major dealer in vintage stereo images and equipment will be represented at
this 100+ table trade show, as well as merchandisers of current stereo
cameras, accessories, projectors, mounts, viewers, images and books. Odds
are, if it isn't in that room that weekend, the stereo-related item you're
looking for isn't available anywhere.
>
>Saturday night has the Awards Banquet at 7:00 PM and Sunday morning has
the President's Breakfast scheduled for 8:00 AM.
>
>
Finally, here's a bit I tried to post every time. Time is getting short,
with just five weeks to showtime, so this is as important as ever:
>REGISTER NOW!
>We would like to pre-register as many as possible! Pre-registered is the
way to go, >as the manpower required to generate all of the badges,
stickers, packets, etc. on->site really slows things down, and wouldn't you
much rather be watching a slide >presentation than standing in a line
waiting to register? Mail in that entry form >today!
>
Entry forms can be found inserted with the last two Stereo World magazines,
but if you aren't an NSA member (and why not?) you can link to a
Registration Form on the web by following the NSA '97 link from Mary Ann
Sell's page:
Go to: http://www.cinti.net/~vmmasell
One thing I noticed comparing last year with this is that Early Birds are
getting a great deal for NSA '97. While we charged an extra $20.00 for a
Registrant to get into the Trade Fair one hour earlier than the other
Registrants on Saturday, for NSA '97 a mere $15.00 gets you in an hour and
a half before the rest! (You must still have a Three-day registration to
get Early Bird tags.)
Did I mention that you can VOLUNTEER TO HELP by contacting committee
members from Mary Ann's site?
Best regards,
Bill Davis
Still searching for the "Any" key so I can strike it and continue.
