Please don't advise newbies to try this technique. As a photo restorationist
with over 20 years under the belt, this is the best way to destroy a
priceless albumen print. Most old albumen surfaces will have damage to the
surface, such as cracks or scratches. Too much moisture for too long a
period will literally lift of the image when the swab is applied. It is
possible to use this, but only with adequate training and a lot of practice.

If you have to clean an albumen print, try a very soft art eraser first, and
avoid and areas with visible damage. Water based cleaning should only be
attempted by expert hands.
