Re: Cardboard mount heaven!

I usually mount a roll of 21 stereo pairs in about an hour - very similar
to your own experience with the "transfer" method you used George. However
I use a special jig (which speeds me up) to get projection-accuarate
alignment (which slows me down). All-in-all about the same speed you are
getting with the transfer method.

Projection accurate mounting can be (and is) done with those cardboard
mounts, but for easy and consistent results a better aligment tool would be
needed (eg: a jig of some sort). I think that pushing the two mounts up
against an edge for alignment is useful, but am not surpised that the
vertical aligment could be improved on by subsequent manual adjustment or
tweeking. I would agree with your experience here George.

Yes it is possible, but it hasn't been a priority, because the majority of
Australian stereo photographers don't want them. However, the USA market is
clearly different to that in Australia. More people use aluminum in the
USA. When I have used aluminum masks, I like to put them into cardboard
covers in preference to the aluminum frames, as I have seen some slides
scratched from the corner of the aluminum frame (from mis-handling). Of
course glass covers fix that too.

(Just as an aside - the recent PSA-endorsed stereo exhibition run in Sydney
had approximately 25% RBT mounts, 25% aluminum with or without glass, and
around 50% cardboard style mounts.)
