If it is simply a question of poor focus, then maximum entropy
deconvolution will fix them just as it fixed hubble. Those that want
mucho technical info and sample code should consult "Numerical
Recipies". Those that want software, well there is a package available,
but since it costs circa $300 (by my memory) and is limited to rather
small images (512x512 or maybe 1024x1024) you may wish to track down any
local amateur astrophotographer and see if you can evaluate a copy on
his system before you buy.
Not exactly common now, but now that it is out there at an affordable
price (???), maybe competition will drag it into consumer level products
in the coming years.
We can but hope.
