A clarification on my example:
> An example: A tall person holds their Realist at eye-level, 6 feet

That should read: "is 6 feet away from the plane that runs through
the film plane."
Sorry for any confusion.
The second half of my question, which I falied to explicitly state,
is: How is the "closest object" determined? Point to point or distance
to the parallel plane?
