Naphtha

If it helps tracking it down, Naphtha is the main ingredient in Ronsonol
Lighter Fluid.  I've always used it for removing adhesive and other
gummy residues, occasionally on slide glass being cleaned for reuse. 
It's taken me about 15 years to use up one small can of it, always being
careful to use it in small quantities in a well-ventilated location away
from flames or sparks.  Obviously, it is very flammable!
