I am using an Olympus macro focusing rail which is on
loan from a friend. You mount the camera at right
angles to the way it was meant to be used so that turning
the knob moves you laterally relative to the subject rather
than closer or further. It has mm marks on it so you can
easily more 10 mm or whatever you desire. It is quite solid
so there is no camera rotation that I have noticed.
Adorama (in their Pop Photo ads) shows a two axis
focusing rail for $139. So you could use it to focus
in and our as well as move sideways for camera shift.
If I ever have to return my friend focusing rail I'd
probably buy this one.
