Yes, I do tend to get very irritated very easily for anything that
lowers the information content (unless it's reasonably amusing like the
current chicken thread :-) in the lists.

The reason for this is that believe it or not, there are people on the
list (outside the USA) who pay BY THE BYTE to receive messages (I was
in contact tonight with one). Thus, each digest runs about $20 US to
receive in his case.

That's why the moderators are quite insistent about not overquoting
material previously posted (with the worst offense being an entire
quoted digest with a single "unsubscribe" at the end). Also, I am
after zero spam (zero tolerance as they say) and have generally turned
over as much info as I can garner to the Texas Attorney General since
it's an unauthorized use of the state of Texas computing facilites.
(Probably does no good with the current laws, though).

The desubscribe messages sent to the list are pure laziness as far
as I'm concerned - everyone who sub scribes receives detailed info
on how to desubscribe. But on the theory that people don't save
this, if more than a couple of weeks go by without the administrivia
message being sent, I send it again for the edification of the list.
If someone has lost the instructions, or does not understand, the
moderators are quite willing to help if sent e-mail directly (and
it's not like we try to keep our addresses a secret).

FWIW --- bob w.
