Re: Clubs

>I am planning on forming a Victoria Stereo Club in the Fall

Congratulations!!! There are only a dozen or so stereo clubs in the
USA and Canada (in sharp contrast, there are 17 Corvette clubs in
the Cleveland area... I was shocked when I heard that!!!)

Stereo clubs are the ideal institutions for promoting stereoscopy.

>1.What do you like most & least about stereo clubs?

I am mostly familiar with one club (Detroit) but I have some
experience from discussions with other people, reading club
newsletters and starting a club in Cleveland (2 meetings so far).
The answer to this question is highly club dependent. It is good
to be among people who share the same interest in stereo
photography. I like the slide competitions that I see in Detroit
(also in Chicago in one meeting). There is nothing in particular
that I do not like.

>2.How often should meetings occur and when?

Once a month. During the week is best IMO. 7:30 pm is a good
time to start.

>3.What do you see as the goal of a stereo club?

To promote stereoscopic photography to its members (through
presentations of stereo images, workshops, competitions and other
related activities) and to the general public (the club must be
responsible for promoting stereo even to those who are not
members by organizing slide presentations in public places, etc.)

>4.How many people are needed to make a club interesting and worthwhile?

I would say at least 40 people. At a minimum 20 people must show
up in the meetings. The more the better. If you prepare a nice
slide presentation or a workshop and only 5 people show up then
you will start wondering if it is worth preparing anything again.
