Why 3-D

William Carter writes that he needs to convince a producer to shoot a
movie in 3-D, but he does not think the gimmicky
approach is proper.

William, I am one who thinks that all movies should be made in stereo
and that we certainly don't need objects flying from the screen at us.  

If this producer could ever see the 3-D version of Hitchcocks Dial M For
Murder,
I think your job of convincing would be much simplified.  This movie has
always impressed me as a subtle use of 3-D to enhance the illusion of
reality.
