Re: Why 3D

(IMHO) A primary reason for using 3d (especially in color) is that it
is the only way I know that we can capture an instant of time. Regular
photographs can capture two dimensions, but only 3d provides the means
to allow our brains to reproduce the "reality" of a particular moment
in time. I've often thought about setting up a wall with two eye holes
and a well lit stereoscopic view on the other side of the wall to demon-
strate the idea. If there is nothing in the view that would move,
I don't think anyone would be able to discern whether what was seen
was real or a photograph. After all, everything is fused in the brain
into depth, and if the eyes see what they would have seen at the moment
of the stereoview, how can the brain know the difference?
This idea lends itself readily to my "Historical Preservation
Through Stereoscopic Photography" goal, one I encourage all who do
stereo photography to consider. Perhaps club assignments and photo
ideas could follow. Change is constant; with stereoviews, we can
capture the "reality" of what is here now, at least for an instant
in time.
Anyone interested in this kind is historical preservation has
my best wishes for great projects.
Regards,
Julius
