Re Monet
I looked at the the Phaidon book on Monet there are three paintings there
that might yield some stereo effects. But one example is two alternate
views one in fog so would not work well. Another is a pair of paintings
both called "Water Lillies" .The way they are reproduced would require an
over/under or nesh viewer such as the KMQ or better still the view magic I
tried turning them on their sides to view but could get no effect. Besides
one of them is painted much fainter than the other. The best examples are
the pair called "The Japanese Foot Bridge" and "The Lilly Pond "
respectively . Although they are almost identical and both painted in 1899
the right hand one shows more of the left less of the right and the left
hand vice versa . Like a unmasked stereo pair arranged for cross viewing
which because of their size is the the only way it could be done. The bridge
also shows parrallax differences between the uprights ,they apear to be
reproduced the same size but one is placed higher than the other as if to
correct height differences. When I cross view them I think I can detect
some stereo particularily in the bridge and beyond it. Although this would
seem to be the correct way round for viewing it might be interesting to see
it transposed. P.J.Homer
