Window reversal
Bill, what you call "window reversal" we call "window violation".
This happens when the window is placed past objects that intercept
it. (or for the rest of this list, these objects are placed
in front of the window).
It is not really a reversal (except if it is placed past infinity?)
Someone has made the 3L rule mnemonic for correct window placement:
"The Left eye sees Less in the Left side". I am trained to check
the left side of the right image and expect to see more there.
Sometime ago I asked this list why is the stereo window neglected
in the old stereo views. One of the reasons is I think that the
experience when looking at stereo views is not as realistic as
when looking at slides in a good viewer or in projection, although
I am sure print makers will disagree with this.
>When the window is correct , the edges fuse well, and this makes
>for pleasant viewing. When the window is reversed there is
>extraneous material on one or both sides of the viewed image and this
>affects the "apparent reality " of the stereograph and reduces the
>viewing enjoyment. I am not sure that slide enthusiasts are concerned
>about reversed windows but those of us who do prints sure are.
Are you kiddding me? :-)
Slide enthusiasts like myself are very concerned about the realism
of their stereo pictures! Apparently (again, I am drawing my own
conclusions here) more than print makers or computer gurus.
