Paul,
'You got me' in terms of the difference between theoretical and practical.
People often speak within postings knowing that a lot of beginners are
"listening" and speak to them even though the posting seems to be toward
another particular person's idea. This leads to speaking in generalities.
When one speaks in generalities, this will almost by definition, enforce
rules. This is a limitation of a textual mailing list. If we could show
examples and speak of a *specific* example, rather than generalities, rule
enforcement might be more lax. I think I wrote to people's intention.
If one were to ask "is there any rule that can't be broken with acceptable
results by someone very skilled in stereo photography". The answer would
be yes, but for rules like "don't leave the lens cap on for the whole roll"
or "put film in the camera". There also are "really-gross-result"
rules that only would be acceptable on "modern art" terms, but for the most
part -- even for making things keystone on purpose -- I believe that most
participants think that rules can be broken by someone very skilled and/or
lucky.
Rules can't be made to be foolproof because fools are *SO* clever!
Or something like that. :-)
Mike K.
P.S. - I think your idea about a "book" that includes various ways
(with examples) rules can be broken on purpose with good
results is an excellent idea! I'm not the one to write
it though!! Maybe an issue of Dalia's magazine can
use this idea for a "theme" issue?
P.P.S. - Dissussion where one is speaking to generalities and the "opposition"
is speaking about a specific exception is fairly common. This
mailing list would be very quiet if it weren't for heated agreements!
