Scanning of ViewMaster images

Having tried using a parallel port camera on a Model D and not been
satisfied with the results, enquiries have led to Jon Gross who suggested a
solution for scanning straight off a ViewMaster reel may be an Artec
Scanrom 4E parallel port, scanner (about $170).  Apparently the  scanning
tray will hold items to be scanned up to 4" X 6", and will scan both
positive and negative (transparency) images.  The optical resolution is
400dpi, with interpolation to 4800 dpi.

Has anyone tried scanning VM reels direct or got any advice on this?
