re: Standing Still

For about 20 years I have carried a portable clamp with a
swivel-head camera mount in my fanny pack. It only weighs about five
ounces and takes up very little space. It was made by ROWI and is based on
the C-clamp. In the base of clamp handle there is even a screw that can be
used to put a clamp support into a tree or fencepost if there is nothing
handy to clamp to.

I don't know if they are still made, but any good photo shop should
be able find a catalog to check.

Recently I bought hiking stick made by LEKI. The ball attachment on
the top unscrews to reveal a camera mount. If you need a hiking stick, see
if it can also double as a monopod. With the stick and your elbow braced
against a tree or a rock you should be able to stabilize your shot with ease.
