How strong are your auxiliaries? Best bet is to mount one close-up lens
over both of the Duples lenses - 72mm close-up lenses are relatively
easy to find, and work well. By using only one lens, the "wedge effect"
will converge the beams so that the object is still centred in the chips.

Camera shops?
->3. Does anyone know of a person who would be able to remove the

Why bother? (unless yours is the early Duplex, rather than the "Super
Duplex" In which case, change the lenses, but keep the standard
focussing range :-) :-) )
4. Does anyone know of a person who would be able to replace
->the current diaphram with one of much smaller openings? (Like F40)
Try using small waterhouse stops in front of the lens, first. It worked
well for Pat Whitehouse, so why go to the trouble of mangling the
camera? You will need to mount an electronic flash so it's pointing at
your subject, and if your going in for close-ups in a big way, you might
like to mount a pair of rods on the camera in such a way that their tips
are on opposite sides of an imaginary frame around the plane of sharpest
focus.
Good luck! Oh, by the way, the theoretical closest subject for a Duplex
would be at about 2 feet. (I'm using the "thirtieth rule" and halving
the result. Works - unless you are particularly worried about
distortions.
