That's interesting! I did prefer the older term though; more catchy!
I wonder why they changed the names?

I haven't seen the dome version, but I recollect the same thing, that it
was hard to do 3D with the dome version. The 3D version that I heard about
was a computer generated 3D dome version, because of the difficulties
you described. I imagine there must have been new ones done?
