Mounting Worshop...in 5 hours...

Last night I prepared for the stereo mounting wor(k)shop which will
take place in 5 exactly hours. I had taken a series of identical
pictures with my Realist from the entrance to our club meeting building.
The picture shows the side of the building, a pole at 10 feet and trees
and a Stop sign far away.

I mounted each one differently:

#1: Following the mounting gauge (window at 7 feet)
#2: Following my style (window at about 9 feet)
#3: Window too close (4 feet?)
#4: Window too far away (almost at infinity)
#5: Vertical error
#6: Rotational error

I used RBT mounts and shifted the chips to place the window, used the
extreme postitions of the pins to create vertical error and filed off
parts of one pin that allowed me to rotate one chip. Using a measuring
tape I measured the separation of the Stop sign in the pairs in cases
1-4. I found that in case 1 this sepation is 3", in case 2 it is 2",
in case 3 it is 5" (ouch!) and in case 4 it is zero (my good friend
Ferwarda calls this "puppet theater" and that's exactly how the
projector was set in the last Detroit meeting).

In addition to these demonstration slides, I have a few more slides showing
effective placement of the stereo window. Plus, a club member will show
how he uses the heat-seal cardboard mounts and I will demonstrate the
"Spicer" mounts and RBTs and aluminum mounts.

Just in case Bill Walton makes a comment about slides vs. prints, the first
part of the workshop covers the theory behind stereo mounting and this is
mostly independent of the format. Also, R.J. Thorpe has given me
permission to present his material from his web site on mounting prints.
I have made a few copies for club members working with prints.

It is going to be a fun and exciting meeting!

Gabriel, if you pack and leave now, you will be here by 7:30!!!
Remember to take a few slides with you for the open projector (second part
of the meeting)
