Re: Stereo on Mars


On Wednesday I heard a broadcast of an interview of Donna Shirley at JPL.
The planned mode of operation for the Sojourner rover is for a stereo image
to be transmitted from the rover to Earth, where it will be viewed on a
stereo display and a target location selected. A safe course to that location
will be calculated, and the instructions beamed to the rover. The rover also
apparently has a limited capability to recognize and get around obstacles.
