If all I want is a light-weight, fully automatic camera rig, I can always
use my Realist :-) and that's a REAL stereo camera with synchronized
shutters and matched lenses giving a pair of images in one roll of film.

I use twin SLRs for the following features: 1) Wide variety of lenses (135
mm lenses are good for portraits, long distance action, depth compression
and isolating the details, wide lenses have their uses too) 2) Manual
operation (it is important for me to be able to use fast shutter speeds
for action 3d). Can the P&S rigs do that? (maybe they can... I don't know)
The good thing about the twin SLRs is that I can always use one camera and
a macro lens for macro stereo, tabletops, etc. Such flexibility comes at
a price, not only money but also the extra weight, etc.
