The Realist may be the first American miniature format (35mm) stereo
camera, or the first American post WWII stereo camera, but I don't
think it was the first American stereo camera. Several American
companies (e.g., American Optical, E&HT Anthony, Scovill (all of which
eventually became ANSCO)) built stereo cameras starting in the 19th
century. Check out <URL:http://www.fiberq.com/cam/fcam.htm> for other
American camera companies (1879-1930).
Now if only I could find one that took modern 5x7 holders.
