Cardboard mounts and projecting

I was one of those unfortunate souls that brought slides to be
projected at the NSA Show & Tell. My slides were properly mounted in
Albion aluminum masks and finished in Reel 3D Universal cardboard
fold-overs. They work great for hand viewers and my TDC 116
projector. Unfortunately quite a few were extremely out of focus when
projected in the Brackett Dissolver at the show. I understand it puts
a lot of compression stress on the mounts which causes them to bend
or buckle. If I was to do this again I would have to remove the
fold-overs and mount the Albions in glass.

Now that Albions are no longer available I have to find a substitute.
I can't afford to mount everything in RBT's (maybe someday) and I
like to have every thing mounted the same. It makes it much faster
and easier than having to choose which goes in which mount and switch
mounting methods, etc. I really like the Spicer cardboard mounts
(especially at $8.95 for 100), but they would never work in the
Brackett. Mounting the Spicers in glass won't work because they are
too thick then --- unless you use only one piece of glass. I happened
to have some old EMDE glass binder frames lying around so I tried
putting in a Spicer mounted slide and a single piece of glass and it
fit like the proverbial glove.

I can now set up a mounting jig (Joel I'm still waiting) for the
Spicers and go through all my slides like an assembly line. They will
do just fine in a hand viewer and in a TDC and then if I ever decide
to have them projected in a Brackett or send them off in a folio or
to be judged in a contest, I can simply slip them in the EMDE binder
with glass. The big question is: are these binders still available?
If not I suppose the glass could just be taped as I have seen done
with aluminum masks and two pieces of glass.

By the way, if Dr. T is still counting I now have eleven 36 exposure
rolls from the NSA Convention and trip home (Woodland Park Zoo, Point
Defiance, Mount Rainier, etc.) waiting to be mounted. Add that to the
12 rolls waiting from my previous trip to DC and I will have over 600
pairs to mount. It shouldn't take me more than a few hours - every
night - for a month or two. And there were people complaining about
mounting one or two rolls!!! *{:-)

Thanks for the time,
