NSA '97 purchase

I haven't mentioned this here yet because I haven't got it
working 'til today.

At the convention I purchased from Catalyst Coporation a hardware/software
package called VR-Vision.

The software is an image editing and viewing package called "NEON." It
allows you to import stereo pairs and position and crop them for LCD flicker
glasses viewing.

The hardware is an outboard vertical synch doubler. In operation, it forces
your monitor (they say it works with any multi-synch monitor made in the
last couple of years) to a vertical refresh rate of 120hz, providing
virtually flicker-free viewing of the images.

The results are impressive.

You must have a video card with at least 2megs of RAM and you must be able
to force the video mode to 1024x768 at 16-bit color depth and 60hz vertical
synch. You can use faster vertical rates if your monitor can keep up with
the doubled synch.

I had a Diamond Stealth 64 VLB card which seemed to meet the specs, but
which caused two different monitors to hickup at the high refresh rate. The
designer of the system says this is the first time they have encountered
this problem. (Hmmmmmm. Have I heard that from peripheral vendors before?)

Anyway, a Diamond SpeedStar 64 ISA card works fine.

Neotek, the creators of the system, are working with 3DTV Corp. to bring out
a line of computer-viewable DVDs. You can see some details, including titles
initially avaliable, at their web site:
