I may be old fashioned, but I think it is a shame that companies like
Kodak are not seen as being in the business of producing their special
products, but rather in producing shareholder dividends. It places their
products and technologies in a secondary (or terciary) place resulting
in the discontinuance of good and useful products, not because their
production looses money, but because it does not make MORE.
Kodak's marketing follow-through is as wanting as that of many large
corporations. I recieved e-mail from Kodak marketing advising me that
a July "highlight" was the SIGNIFICANT price reduction on the DC-25
digital camera. I was directed to contact a dealer for pricing.
I consulted their web pages (as advised) for the location of nearby
"authorized dealers." When I called two of them, I was quoted the
older, higher price. When I asked about the "price reduction" they said
they had not heard anything.
Also neither of them had the unit in stock, but were merely "order points"
for the products.
And so it goes...
When a company sells shares in itself, it is selling its soul.
