Lenticular technology helps mice!? ;-)

Recently I came across yet another lenticular mousepad. This one featured
Starship Enterprise NC1701 from the original Star Trek series. It is a 3D
lenticular with limited motion of the laser beams firing. The 3D effect is
pretty good. The pad measures 8 inches square.

While I added the lenticular mouse pad to my collection of lent pads,
(I don't use them as mouse pads!) I got to wondering about how the
lenticular ridges would stand up to daily mouse pad droppings, I mean
tracking. Anyways I read the back of the packaging, which I thought was
interesting and would like to share it here on P3D. It mentions,

3D Motion Mouse Mat (tm)

American Covers presents the latest technological breakthough in
multi-perspective digital interlaced imaging and combines it with
the best mouse mat ever made. The special lenticular surface provides
precise non-directional mouse tracking on a spectacular 3D image.
The unique backing material of this mouse mat provides a non-skid
"sure-grip" base that literally hugs any table top or work surface,
while the beveled edge makes it streamlined and durable for years of
problem-free mouse tracking.

So there you have it, not only are lenticulars good for imaging but
also for mice! The mouse pad is made by American Covers. The image
of the mouse pad can be viewed at the company's web site at

The Star Trek lent is the one on the far right and they talk about
it and show it again at
at http://www.americancovers.com/strek.html

There are other companies that make lenticular mouse pads as well.
Incidentally, I had the Star Trek lenticular already, but as a
different size and format. That one was given to me by someone at
work, who had previously worked for a printing company. The printing
company was contracted to do a whole bunch of lenticulars for a US firm.
The printing company is located in Montreal. Will talk about this one
in my next post.
