flash sync on Realist

In Bellevue, I bought a Hama hot shoe adapter for my Realist.   It simply
slides into the Realist shoe, and the flash into it, and seems to fit
correctly. However, it doesn't cause my (working) flash to fire at several
shutter speeds. Am I missing something concerning flash use on the Realist?
