My experience is that Kodak/Kodalux/Qualex numbers standard (2x2
mounted) slides, but they do not number Realist format slides.
Not only do they not number the Realist format slides, they don't
seem to make any particular effort to return them in order, either.
You have to rely on your memory or notes if you want to number them
yourself. Thus, if you are performing some kind of exposure calibration
test or shutter speed test, you probably shouldn't send that roll
of film to them.
I predict that if you ask for an explanation they will say the
2x2 processing and mounting is an automated process and the
equipment performs the numbering. They will probably also say
that numbering Realist format slides would have to be done
manually, which they probably won't do no matter how nicely
you ask.
