Bas Relief - Almost, but not quite related

I have used an interesting technique to heighten depth rather than
flatten it. In my genealogical pursuits I often encounter badly
eroded tombstones. Sometimes I take my 17mm lens along and move it
up as close to the tombstone as I can while still getting the entire
stone in the picture. Then I shift the camera to the left as far as
I can, keeping the film plane parallel with the face of the tombstone
and take the picture.
Then I cha-cha to the right and do the same thing. I take a lot of care
to avoid rotation, use a tripod etc, etc. This results in paralax far
greater that the 1:30 rule. It is important to crop the prints right
down to the edges of the front face because any background will be
completely unrelated. The result is engraving that is much deeper
than it was before which sometimes makes the stone decipherable when
it wasn't otherwise. You can also flip the two images to make
the inscription stand out from the surface and occasionally this is
of even greater help.
