Mounting jigs are used to correctly align film chips in masks. Masks
such as the RBT, Albion, and EMDE do not need a jig as they have
built in alignment tabs, but fold over cardboard mounts allow a lot
of movement to the individual chips and therefore need a means of
aligning and then holding the chips while they are secured (usually
by tape).
I can't speak for the Nightingale, but the Spicer Mounting Jig looks
wonderful. I had a chance to see one at NSA at the Rocky Mountain
Memories booth. They are no longer being made, but Joel Alpers is
looking into producing a small run. When they were first made they
sold for about $65.00. They were made out of Plexiglas with metal
fittings. You can see one at the Kiewa Valley web site (home of Mr.
Spicer) in Australia. He has also graciously included a detailed
drawing and directions if you want to make one of your own. He has
also added instructions on how to use a modified RBT mount to align
chips on the Spicer (or other) mount. There is also lots of other
great 3d stuff there!
