Stereo Macro DLR

Just another project that's passed the testing stage. I've made a macro
attachment for my Stereo Miranda.

It's at:

This one is a merging of a couple of past projects. I wanted full frame
stereo macro with a variable base and through-the-lens viewing. What I came
up with was an attachment for my double-lens reflex camera, the Stereo Miranda.

It's REALLY rough right now, but functional. Although I will eventually link
the aperture so it automatically stops down when the shutter is released,
right now I have to live with pressing the depth-of-field preview button
before I make the exposure. The 85mm anastigmat I'm using gives surprising
results, especially stopped down to f:80 or 100. I vary the stereo base
between 6mm and 12mm right now, and found 1:1.5 the best magnification range
for the subjects I'm shooting, butterflies, spiders and other insects.

Changing focus is also clumsey, so I expect I'll also add a slide or bellows
at some point.

While nowhere near the level of workmanship of the RBT and its new macro
attachment, this will at least hold me until I can AFFORD one of Jon
Golden's little gems!

PS: The images link to cross viewed stereo pairs. I bought a pair of LCD
glasses at NSA'97, but have yet to figure out how to use them and set up my
pages for them. Any advice out there?

Sam
