George's woes

I was feeling really bad for George until I got to the fine print where
he mentioned that he lost one quarter of his shots - some of us lose
that many to incompetence alone! 8-)
Sam is right - never trust any camera. When I travel or am staying
abroad I shoot a roll of E-6 every few rolls and have it processed
locally. This could be a bother, but I choose to regard it as an
opportunity. A few shots on this roll are pure test shots - various
shutter speeds or modes - but for the rest I force myself to "push the
envelope" - experimenting with various techniques I would not use for
"orthodox" work - panning with subjects in motion, time exposures,
shooting subjects that would normally not interest me - the test purpose
is accomplished; of course most shots are disposable, but once in a
while, something is achieved or learned that would not have otherwise
occured.
I usually carry a Fed and a Belplasca, neither of which are noted for
reliability, so these routine checks are good insurance - and assurance.
However, if even these precautions fail, and some great stuff is lost to
the camera gremlins, I take it as a sign from Above - to go back and try
again!
